GERMANY: Leibniz University Hannover opens procurement for renewable electricity supply

Leibniz University Hannover has launched a tender for the supply of approximately 56.2 GWh per year of renewable electricity across 97 sites on its estate.

The procurement includes two lots with different operating arrangements, which are together designed to clean up the power supplies of the higher education institution.

The larger lot, representing around 53.8 GWh annually, will cover facilities connected to the enercity Netz and avacon Netz distribution grids. A smaller lot of 2.4 GWh annually is dedicated to sites within the Leine Netz distribution network.

Both contracts allow for potential one-year extensions beyond their initial three-year terms, commencing on 1 January 2026.

Suppliers are encouraged to at least partially incorporate wind-power PPAs into their proposals, with bids evaluated on cost and contribution to renewable energy targets.

Interested parties must submit bids by 14 January 2025 via a dedicated electronic platform.

NPM earlier this week published an analysis of current conditions in the German PPA market, with negative pricing concerns now at the top of the agenda for those operating in the space.
