GERMANY: ABO poised to launch financing for 60 MW auction-backed onshore wind portfolio

ABO Energy is understood to be preparing the launch of a project finance transaction for a quartet of onshore wind farms which recently secured tariffs in the latest round of Germany’s incentive auction framework for the technology.

The company plans to approach lenders during the first half of 2025 with a view to securing debt to help fund construction of the 59 MW portfolio.

The projects are forecast to require capex of EUR 118m and around 75%-80% of this total is expected to be represented by loans.

ABO is aiming to reach financial close on the deal by the end of 2025 with a view to bringing the wind farms into operation between 2026 and mid-2027.

The portfolio comprises the 24 MW Öhringen-Karlsfurtebene in Baden-Württemberg, the 16.8 MW Himmighofen-Kasdorf in Rhineland-Palatinate, the 12 MW Marpingen in Saarland and the 6.2 MW Nonnenholz in Baden-Württemberg.

Each of the assets secured their incentives tariffs via the latest onshore wind auction in Germany, which reported its results earlier in December and was around 1.5 times oversubscribed. Average contracts awarded during the process hit EUR 71.50 per MWh.

Meanwhile, ABO also won incentives for a trio of solar plants in France during the country’s latest auction round for the technology.

The group is also now understood to be bidding to bring the 55.1 MW portfolio online during 2026 and will also launch a financing transaction during early 2025 with a view to closing by the end of the year.
