UNITED KINDOM: Trina Solar buys consented Scottish BESS from Source Galileo

Trina Solar has acquired the consented Rigifa Farm battery storage project near Aberdeen, Scotland from Source Galileo, it is understood.

The Chinese PV company completed the deal on January 22, according to company records.

JV development partners Source Energie and Galileo successfully took the Rigifa BESS through planning during 2024, securing final consent from Aberdeen City Council in November.

The developers at the time stated that the 56-container storage facility will feature a 40 MW capacity, although planning documents and grid documents offer a 49.9 MW figure.

Rigifa, located adjacent to the Blackhills Quarry site to the south of the city of Aberdeen, will connect into the nearby Redmoss substation.

National Energy System Operator data gives a grid connection date for the project as March 2025.

Trina Solar in late 2024 exited its previously agreed JV with AGR to develop the Bicker Fen solar and storage scheme following the clearance of a national security assessment that nonetheless imposed restrictions on the operational information the company could access via the project.

Trina and Source Galileo were contacted for comment.
