UNITED KINGDOM: DataVita receives approval from North Lanarkshire Council for DV3 data centre plans

DataVita has received planning approval from North Lanarkshire Council to develop its DV3 data centre facility across a 4.4 acre site on York Road in Chapelhall, Scotland.

The proposed site will comprise a 3-storey building in close proximity to its current 24 MW DV1 facility. The existing land is a brownfield site, previously forming part of the Dunalistair Enterprise Estate, which has since been cleared for redevelopment.

The approval letter is dated January 8, 2026, and is subject to conditions. MLA Architects was mandated by DataVita as agent for the application.

It is not yet clear how much IT capacity the facility will deliver.

A planning application for alterations to the building to the north of the application site (Unit 1, York Road) was submitted in August 2025 and is also currently under consideration, but is not expected to result in any significant cumulative impact.

Opened in 2016, the purpose-built co-location data centre facility DV1 sits on a 8,000 sqm plot and currently delivers 24 MW of available power, with a PUE of 1.15, according to the DataVita website.

In DecemberNPM revealed that the developer had received planning permission – subject to conditions – to further expand the facility’s IT capacity to 40 MW.

DataVita has a second facility located in Glasgow, dubbed DV2, which offers 130 racks of space and 1 MW of available power, according to the website. The site, which is 1000 sqm in size, has a PUE of 1.18.
