ORIGINATION: Meta launches Meta Compute to build more gigawatt-scale AI data centers

Meta launched Meta Compute, a new division to manage its rapidly growing AI data center operations, according to a social media post from CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The company appointed Santosh Janardhan to co-lead the division, overseeing technical architecture, silicon, and data center operations, and named Daniel Gross co-lead to manage long-term capacity planning, supplier partnerships, and business modeling.

They will collaborate with Dina Powell McCormick on partnerships with governments and sovereign entities.

Meta invested heavily in AI, spending USD 14.8bn to acquire a 49% stake in Scale AI and hiring CEO Alexandr Wang to lead a superintelligence lab.

The company plans to build tens of gigawatts this decade and eventually scale to hundreds of gigawatts.
