UAE-based investor Masdar is looking to build out its BESS presence across Europe, with moves being eyed into the Netherlands, Poland and Germany.
The group has to date confined its BESS investments to the UK, off the back of its acquisition of developer Arlington Energy in 2022.
However, it is now understood to be stepping up plans to acquire RTB assets across the Netherlands, Poland and Germany, and has recruited Tevali Partners as its financial advisor to support in the initiative, it is understood.
The group is aiming to secure several hundred MWs of RTB assets this year in its target geographies.
It is looking for standalone BESS projects in Poland and the Netherlands, and both standalone and co-located BESS projects in Germany.
While it will typically aim to purchase projects of around 100 MW in size, it will also consider purchasing smaller projects and could potentially enter into framework development agreements through which it would purchase schemes once they reach RTB.
