RISK: Pentagon adds Trina Solar, JA Solar to Chinese military-linked companies list operating in the US

The US Deputy Secretary of Defense on Monday added leading solar and storage manufacturers Trina Solar and JA Solar to a list of entities designated as Chinese Military Companies Operating in the US.
Companies added to the list, in accordance with Section 1260H of the William M. Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act, face strict contracting bans and investment restrictions which can carry significant operational, financial or compliance consequences.
Trina Solar and JA Solar did not respond to NPM’s requests for comment.
According to the Department of War, Trina Solar is believed to be a military-civil fusion contributor to the Chinese defense industrial base because it knowingly received assistance through science, technology, research or industrial efforts tied to the Chinese military industrial planning apparatus or objectives through its designation as a “Single Champion,” and because it’s located in a military-civil fusion enterprise zone.
JA Solar is believed to be a military-civil fusion contributor to the Chinese defense industrial base because it knowingly received assistance from the Government of China through science, technology, or industrial efforts tied to the Chinese military planning apparatus or in furtherance of Chinese military industrial planning objectives through its designation as a “Little Giant” and a “Single Champion.”
Trina Solar’s headquarters are in Changzhou, China, with regional headquarters, sales, and manufacturing bases across all seven continents.
JA Solar’s headquarters are in Beijing, China and offers products in 180 countries and regions.
Battery and EV manufacturers, EVE Energy and CALB Group, were also added to the list.
