The National Land Survey has officially granted atNorth the land rights – through an advance possession permit – for power infrastructure connected to its 430 MW Kouvola data centre campus.
The decision, granted July 6, paves way for two new 10 kV power transmission lines to connect its latest Finnish data centre in Myllykoski to Fingrid‘s main grid via the new Tuomijoen substation.”The applicant is granted for a permit for advance possession in accordance with Section 58 of the Expropriation Act,” the notice read.
NPM’s previous coverage identifies the facility as the FIN04A data centre in Myllykoski, which is currently under construction despite aiming to be operational by Q2 2025 – delivering at least 40 MW, and a final 430 MW facility in Myllykoski, for H2 2025.
However, Peab recently secured a EUR 130m contract from atNorth to build the facility and said that it is on track for a scheduled completion in summer 2027.
The newly approved transmission corridor features a 26m-wide cleared line area designed to secure uninterrupted power transmission and future-proof local distribution.
In a separate multi-billion-dollar move, Equinix and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) entered into a joint agreement to acquire atNorth from Partners Group in a USD 4bn (EUR 3.39bn) transaction back in February.
Goldman Sachs was mandated to run the sale, while Guggenheim advised Equinix, Altman Solon provided consultancy services, and Linklaters supported CPPIB.
Concurrently, atNorth is rapidly scaling its footprint into Norway with the acquisition of an 89-acre plot within Haugaland Business Park for a new site, dubbed NR01. The site features an initial capacity of 120 MW, which is scalable to 350 MW of IT capacity, with power availability projected for 2028.
Two substations will be developed for the Norwegian asset, handled by Statnett and local system operator Fagne.
The expansion follows the company’s announcement of a separate 300 MW site at Hamre Industrial Park in Sollefteå, Sweden, which was secured in December 2024. The Swedish site, spanning a 123.5-acre plot, is fully zoned and prepared for development, with operations expected to commence in H1 2028.
atNorth continues to aggressively scale its digital infrastructure portfolio across Finland, Sweden, and Norway.
