​GERMANY: Westfalen Weser Energie launches tender for battery storage projects

German regional energy supplier Westfalen Weser Energie has announced a procurement process for three battery storage projects be installed at sites in North Rhine-Westphalia, with a combined capacity of 280 MW / 560 MWh.

The portfolio includes 180 MW / 360 MWh Kirchlengern (delivery date January 30, 2026), 25 MW / 50 MWh Blomberg (December 19, 2025), and 75 MW / 150 MWh Würgassen (January 30, 2026).

Kirchlengern has a 45MW / 90 MWh optional extension.

The systems, designed to support grid stability and electricity trading, are expected to achieve approximately 1.7 full load cycles per day.

The tender includes the supply and installation of medium-voltage skids comprising inverters, transformers and switchgear.

Bidders are also invited to propose optional energy management systems tailored to each project site.

The procurement process will follow a negotiated procedure with prior publication. Interested parties must submit anonymised clarification questions by February 14, 2025, with responses to be provided by February 23.

Applications to participate in the tender must be submitted by February 28, with indicative offers due by April 18.

The final contract award is expected by June 13, and the project is thereafter set to commence immediately in order to meet the January 2026 final completion target date.
