Zenobe has acquired Bavaria-headquartered developer sdp energie, marking its first entry into the German BESS market.
The acquisition includes a pipeline of 1.75 GW of transmission-connected battery storage projects across six German sites, at various stages of development. Zenobe is aiming to bring all of the projects to ready-to-build over the course of 2027.
Zenobē states it was the first company to use grid-scale battery storage to provide commercial-scale inertia and short-circuit level to transmission system operators, along with reactive power and black start capabilities. It plans to offer these services to German TSOs as related markets develop, supporting renewables integration.
The acquisition follows Zenobē’s June financial close on its 200 MW / 800 MWh Coalburn BESS in Scotland, a four-hour-duration battery.
Zenobe was advised on the sdp acquisition by AFRY (technical) and Norton Rose Fulbright (legal).
