IRELAND: NTR swoops for 90 MW solar project in County Offaly

NTR has acquired the consented 90 MW Ballyteige solar PV project in County Offaly from UK-based developer RES following an auction process.

The Dublin-based fund manager completed the purchase of the scheme in the first half of November, it understood, over a year after RES first put the scheme up for sale in early autumn 2023.

Ballyteige was granted planning consent in early 2022 and was among the successful applicants for a grid connection offer in the autumn 2022 ECP 2.3 process.

However, it is believed to have not yet secured a 15-year RESS contract, meaning it could potentially bid into upcoming RESS auctions, or alternatively look to negotiate a corporate PPA.

RES’s circa 25MW Rathduff solar scheme in County Tipperary also formed part of the sale process launched in H2 2023, although it is understood to have not yet changed hands.

NTR previously acquired the circa 20 MW County Tyrone-located Murley onshore wind farm in Northern Ireland and a 54MW portfolio of co-located solar and battery storage projects in County Wexford from RES in autumn 2021 and Q1 2021 respectively.
