M&A: Competitive process expected for EDF US as first rounds bids come due later this month
First round bids are due later this month on EDF’s US business in what is expected to be a very competitive process, said sources familiar with the situation.
EDF Power Solutions hired Nomura Greentech earlier this year and a formal process recently just launched. Alongside a separate process to sell its Brazilian unit, EDF has made no secret of looking to recycle proceeds into its nuclear fleet in Europe.
While the reservoir for platform equity opportunities in the US has dried up, sources indicated that EDF’s development, origination and asset-recycling capabilities make it a unique value proposition. This as the solar industry continues to face industry headwinds due to tariff concerns, FEOC and tax credits which start to sunset in 2H26.
In the past, EDF has sold all or parts of projects to investors such as Power Sustainable, Enbridge and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, while also selling projects to utilities such as AES Indiana, Omaha Public Power District and Indiana Michigan Power.
EDF Power Solutions has 5.2 GW of net operating generation between US and Canada and has 16 GW O&M business.
NPM data points to a big late-stage pipeline behind this.
NPM Interconnection queue data identified 15 pre-operational projects across 2.77 GW, being developed by EDF, which are at an advanced stage. This includes six projects with executed interconnection agreements across Oklahoma, Indiana, Ohio and Texas in 2025, according to NPM SIGNALS.
