ORIGINATION: Google, Intersect launch co-located Meitner, TX data center

Google and Intersect have started construction of the Meitner Energy Center, a data center and power complex in Gray and Roberts Counties, Texas, built alongside dedicated on-site energy generation, according to a press release.
The project co-locates the data center with more than 1 GW of wind, solar and battery storage, with additional on-site gas used for reliability. The co-location model is designed to meet the facility’s power demand with dedicated generation and reduce reliance on the regional grid.

The facility will use air cooling to limit water consumption. The project follows an earlier Google–Intersect development in Haskell County that pairs a data center with 640 MW of solar and 1.3 GWh of storage.Google acquired Intersect last year in a transaction valued at USD 4.75bn.
