NPM SIGNALS identified that the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) signed off on AES Indiana’s planned Monrovia project.

The project is a large-load customer initiative designed primarily to serve a planned Google-affiliated data center in Monrovia, Indiana.

Part of the relief sought by AES Indiana was permission to acquire power generation and capacity to serve the data center, comprised of one hybrid project: Crosstack and two battery energy storage projects: 200 MW Foundry Works and 130 MW Hardy Hills. All three projects were selected out of an all-source RFP process.

NPM identified a planned data center project from Google, Project Louie in Morgan County, which houses Monrovia.

The IURC found that the project’s agreements provide financial protections for existing customers, with the large-load customer expected to cover at least 100% of the incremental costs associated with serving its load. AES Indiana stated that the customer would contribute approximately USD 300m in fixed-cost support at minimum demand levels and more than USD 770m at forecast demand levels over the contract term.

The order also approves associated transmission upgrades, battery storage and solar resources, AES Indiana’s proposed joint-venture ownership structure, accounting treatment, and cost-recovery framework. The Commission concluded that the project supports reliability, affordability, resiliency, and economic development while protecting existing ratepayers.

Invenergy developed the hybrid Crosstrack project in Pine County and Foundry Works project in Lake County, while 170 MW Hardy Hills project in Dubois County was a self-build project.

NPM Interconnection queue data is tracking a 200 MW pre-operational storage project in Lake County with a point-of-interconnection (POI) location SCHAHFER GEN STA-ST. JOHN 345kV.

NPM also identified a pre-operational storage project in Dubois County, with an actual service date of September 10, 2027 and POI location Duff-Dubois 138 kV.
