ROMANIA: Local developer puts 400 MW battery storage project on the market

Local Romanian developer Kajoni Energie Romania has put up for sale a 398 MW/797 MWh battery storage project in Romania.

The group, together with local partners, has in recent weeks secured a grid connection offer for the Slatina, southern Romania-located BFB project, white it is aiming to sign a connection agreement and secure a building permit over Q2-Q3.

It is targeting securing an ANRE licence over Q4 at which point construction could commence. Commissioning is anticipated by late 2026.

The project, which has been designed to connect directly to Romania’s national transmission operator, Transelectrica, will provide grid balancing and ancillary services once online.

The company launched the sale of the project this month, will take non-binding offers over the course of February and aims to conclude a deal with an acquiring party by late Q2, it is understood. Vendor due diligence is currently being undertaken by CEE-focused law firm Schoenherr, with completion estimated later in Q1 2025

The BFB scheme will be sold at ready-to-build, with land, grid and permitting secured. However, the acquirer will be free to choose its own battery solution, and EPC and O&M provider, it is understood.

Market sources have told NPM in recent months that Romanian BESS capex is currently in the EUR 200,000/MWh range.

Greencap Partners (financial) is understood to be advising on the sale.
