UNITED KINGDOM: Infinis takes over pre-construction Teesside hybrid development from Hive Energy, Ethical Power

UK renewables generation company Infinis has notched up a deal to acquire the near-shovel-ready California Farm solar and battery storage project near Stockton-on-Tees in the north-east of England.

The Northampton-based energy group secured the 49.9 MW PV and 200 MWh BESS project from former owners Hive Energy and Ethical Power, who held the scheme via their UK development JV, just before Christmas.

Infinis will now turn attentions towards taking the asset into its construction phase, which is expected to occur over the coming months.

Meanwhile, the sellers themselves acquired California Farm from original developers Sirius Group and EcoDev in early 2022.

The project was then submitted for planning consent with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and was cleared for construction by the local authority in March 2023.

For Infinis, the deal builds on its October 2024 acquisition of the 50 MW Oaklands hybrid PV and BESS project in Wales, which was also sold on by Sirius and EcoDev.

Meanwhile, it emerged this week that Hive Energy had sold its 50% stake in Ethical Power to entrepreneur Greg Skinner, although the two companies’ development JV is still in place.

Infinis declined to comment, while the sellers were also contacted.
