UNITED KINGDOM: Macquarie makes second push for Cero Generation sale
Macquarie Asset Management has re-ignited talks with investors regarding the sale of European solar IPP Cero Generation, it is understood.
The infrastructure investor first ran an auction process for the platform in 2024 and generated initial interest from a handful of parties, although the transaction ultimately failed to conclude.
It is now working with financial adviser Akereos Capital on a revamped sale, according to multiple market sources.
The group is mooted to already be in ongoing talks with a small handful of investors.
Cero’s marketing two years ago made reference to a circa 25 GW pipeline across eight European markets, with around 8 GW in the UK, 5 GW in Greece, 3.5 GW in Poland, 3 GW in France, 2.5 GW in Spain, 2 GW in Italy, 300 MW in Germany and around 60 MW in the Netherlands, while it had at the time brought around 350 MW into operation.
It is since believed to have streamlined its development activities, while it raised finance and started construction on a 244.7 MWp tranche of its Spanish solar PV portfolio in August 2024, the 114 MW Bramley solar & BESS scheme in summer 2025, and the 78 MWp solar with 120 MW of BESS Bumble Bee project near Doncaster this month.
In Q4 last year it also secured 20-year Fer X incentives for a 78 MW project in Manfredonia, Puglia, as well as for another 41 MW facility in Acate, Sicily.
