UNITED KINGDOM: Masdar Arlington moves for consented Green Frog Cardiff BESS
Masdar Arlington Energy is understood to have closed a deal for the 50 MW Ipswich Road battery storage project in the east of Cardiff, Wales from developer Green Frog Power.
The pair concluded the transaction earlier this week (April 15), according to company records.
The asset was successfully taken through planning by the seller, with Cardiff Council giving its final positive determination in April 2024.
Green Frog also secured a grid connection offer for Ipswich Road, with an initial energisation date made available for July 2025, according to data published by National Grid.
However, an additional 44 MW is also been made available to the project, with a sister facility to be constructed on a site immediately adjacent, although the grid connection date for this portion is understood to fall in the early 2030s.
Ipswich Road will connect into the nearby Cardiff East substation on Colchester Avenue.
Abu Dhabi-backed Masdaracquired Arlington in 2022 and is targeting the construction of more than 3 GW of UK BESS through the platform.
Masdar Arlington and Green Frog were contacted for comment.
