UNITED KINGDOM: Voltwise seals deal for near 2 GW mixed operational and development-stage portfolio from SMS
London-headquartered energy storage IPP Voltwise Power has concluded the acquisition of a near 2 GW mixed portfolio of operational, under-construction and pipeline battery storage assets across the UK from SMS, it is understood.
The Sandbrook Capital-backed group in recent days bought the string of projects held under the KKR-owned seller’s Care Assets subsidiary, according to company records.
The portfolio features the operational 40 MW Barnsley, 50 MW Berkeley, 50 MW Brentwood, 50 MW Brook Farm, 50 MW Burwell 1, 50 MW Newtonwood and 30 MW North Tawton batteries.
These projects are also joined by the under-construction Burwell II, 30 MW Drumcross, 30 MW Erskine and 50 MW Wolverhampton.
Meanwhile, other consented or earlier-stage BESS also changing hands as part of the deal include the 440 MW Overton near Hull (connection date 2035), the 99.9 MW Muckraw in West Lothian, Scotland (2032), 266 MW Kinkhall near Lennoxtown, Scotland (2031), 440 MW Kellingley in Yorkshire (2035), as well as the consented 100 MW Bramford in Suffolk, 50 MW Upton in Hampshire and the 50 MW Overseal in Derbyshire.
SMS has assembled the portfolio from a mix of greenfield as well as past acquisitions from developers including Anesco, Balance Power, Cambridge Power and Muirhall Energy.
