GERMANY: Octopus and Energiequelle to combine for renewables project development
Octopus Energy is understood to be in the process of making its latest foray into the German renewable energy market with a deal to combine with local developer and operator Energiequelle.
The pair are believed to be establishing a new project development and construction platform in the market, understood to be named Oqto x, with Octopus conducting the deal via its Luxembourg-registered fund Sky Renewables.
The venture, which is subject to approval by German competition authorities, is being positioned as a general contractor in the market, according to filings.
Oqto x could be made available to the pipelines assembled by both companies in recent quarters, although the precise strategy planned for the platform is yet to be formally confirmed.
Octopus first entered the solar market in Germany with a January 2024 deal for a 140 MW pair of solar projects acquired from IB Vogt and Greencells.
The group then swiftly followed that up with a move for German renewables developer Lintas Green Energy and its pipeline of onshore wind and solar projects across the country.
Octopus earlier in 2025 also notched a deal for Hamburg-based developer MN Projects and its 2 GW PV and BESS pipeline.
Energiequelle has meanwhile recently enjoyed success in multiple renewables incentive auctions in Germany, including in the May 1 2025 onshore wind tender.
Octopus and Energiequelle were both approached for comment.
