CROATIA: Market operator allocates support for 419 MW of renewables capacity, Acciona & Enlight among big winners
The Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE) has announced the results of a renewable energy auction launched in April, awarding 419.063 MW of capacity support for solar and hydroelectric projects.
In total, 414.5 MW of solar connection capacity was allocated market premium contracts in the auction, including 330.985 MW from large scale projects (> 1 MW installed capacity) and 83.528 MW from smaller projects (ranging from 200 kW to 6 MW).
Large scale solar winners included Solarna Elektrana Promina, a project owned by Spanish renewable energy provider Acciona, which will provide 150 MW of connection capacity, Israeli investor Enlight Energy with 130 MW, and Austrian IPP RP Global with projects of 15.2 MW and 9.89 MW in connection capacity respectively, among others, according to filings.
The average bid price for large scale solar came in at EUR 56.54 per MWh (84.3% of the maximum benchmark), and for smaller scale solar it was EUR 77.78 per MWh (94.8% of the maximum benchmark).
Successful bids for hydroelectric projects (between 1 MW and 10 MW) totalled 4.55 MW in connection capacity. The average bid price came in at EUR 158.30 per MWh, in line with the set benchmark maximum.
No bids were received for wind projects, for which the auction had set a maximum benchmark of EUR 75.27 per MWh.
Croatia’s state-aid program for incentivising renewable energy projects offers projects a market premium and a guaranteed purchase price for generated electricity.
HROTE had set quotas for installed capacities at 450 MW for solar (including 350 MW from projects of > 1 MW), 150 MW wind (including 60 MW from projects of > 1 MW), and 7.25 MW hydropower.
