NEW PPA: NTR prevails in University of Manchester PPA tender

NTR has been awarded a contract to supply electricity to the University of Manchester, located in the north-west of England, under a corporate PPA.

The Dublin-based renewables investor fought off two rival bids to secure the offtake agreement with the higher education institution, with the resulting multi-year contract estimated to be worth a total of GBP 75m, excluding VAT.

The university launched its PPA search back in late 2022 with an expressions of interest phase for would-be providers.

Manchester at the time specified that the resulting PPA would run for a period of 10-years and cover 50-60 GWh of wind or solar generation per year from a new greenfield project.

It emerged in early 2024 that NTR had signed a 15-year PPA for its 21.6 MW Murley onshore wind farm in Northern Ireland with locally based pharma group Almac.

Meanwhile, in March 2024, the investor sold on its consented 70 MW Medebridge solar farm in Essex to Enviromena, as first reported by NPM Europe. NTR later confirmed that it had secured a PPA with an investment-grade counterparty for the project.

However, it is not yet known which NTR project will provide power to the University of Manchester under the tender.

NTR declined to comment.
