UNITED KINGDOM: Cambridgeshire County Council seeking consultant to procure solar PPA duo

Cambridgeshire County Council has launched a tender for a service provider to manage the procurement of two PPAs for a pair of solar farms under its ownership.

The local authority is seeking quotes from consultancies interested in managing the process to put in place PPAs for both the operational 12 MW Triangle solar farm and the under-construction 39 MW North Angle PV project, both located near Soham in the English county.

Triangle has since 2016 operated under the UK’s CfD framework after securing a GBP 79.23 / MWh strike price (in 2012 prices) in the first ever allocation round in the programme.

This tariff is now worth GBP 110.25 / MWh with indexation taken into account.

The adjacent North Angle project is due to commence operations on September 16, 2024 and does not possess a CfD.

The asset will, once operational, supply around 5% of its output to an energy centre at the heat network which supplies the nearby village of Swaffham Prior. The remainder of North Angle’s production will be contracted under the new PPA.

Cambridgeshire County Council is also seeking its contractor to supply market intelligence which will allow the optimisation of income generation from the sale of the renewable power.

The body has set a June 18 deadline for the submission of quotation responses by interested parties, and expects to award the six-month contract – with optional three-month extension period – by July 5.
