GERMANY: Wpd agrees to take stake in Naturwind

Wpd is understood to have signed an agreement to acquire a 43% stake in German renewables developer Naturwind.

The pair are believed to be in the process of closing a deal for the minority stake, which will give the incoming party joint control of the business.

Schwerin-based Naturwind is primarily engaged in onshore wind farm planning and development, although also operates business lines in energy storage, rooftop solar, heat generation and clean mobility.

The company boasts a circa 400 MW wind portfolio and is actively progressing a pipeline to further expand this figure.

Naturwind’s projects are for the most part located in the north-eastern region of Germany, according to its website.

Wpd is understood to have been an investor in wind projects previously developing by Naturwind, while both companies were among the successful bidders in the final onshore wind auction held in Germany in 2023.

WPD declined to comment, while Naturwind did not respond to a request for comment.
